20-24 hours/week, as directed by the Youth Services Manager. Must be dependable. Hours will include some evenings and weekends.
Starts at $10.00-$15.00/hour and includes vacation, holidays, sick/family leave, and retirement benefits.

Job Description

Performs professional librarian duties for children, teens, and their parents or caregivers, including customer service, program development, library advocacy and outreach, and collection maintenance under the supervision of the Youth Services Manager.


  • Reports to the Library Director and the Youth Services Manager
  • Works under the immediate supervision of the Youth Services Manager

Essential Functions

  • Aid in the planning and implementation of virtual and in-person programming by brainstorming program ideas, creating materials, helping with set-up and tear-down, and facilitating programs both as part of a team and independently
  • Provide circulation assistance, readers advisory, library training, and reference assistance to children, teens, and their parents and caregivers
  • Maintain Kid's and Teen area decorations and displays
  • Create advertising for library programs and events, including flyers, postures, brochures, and social media posts
  • Facilitate library visits for day-care groups, schools, etc.
  • Help with day-to-day library tasks as needed, including, but not limited to checking out materials for patrons and opening/closing the library
  • Maintain the collection through purchase suggestions, weeding, and shelf reading
  • Other duties as needed

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficient using a computer, including general troubleshooting knowledge
  • Proficient using Word, Excel, Publisher, and email
  • Detail oriented and accurate
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form
  • Willing to learn how to use equipment and technology such as a copy machine, laminator, Silhouette, robotics kits, virtual reality headsets, 3D printer etc.
  • Able to accurately shelve library materials

Education and Experience

  • Minimum – High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Library experience and/or experience working with children

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Able to lift materials and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Able to sit at a desk, stand, or walk for long periods of time
  • Able to twist and reach for office equipment, extend arms above the shoulders to reach and retrieve books and materials from shelves, grasp books and materials
  • Able to use a telephone and write or use a keyboard
  • Able to see in normal vision range with or without correction
  • Able to hear in the normal range with or without correction
  • Able to typically work in an air-conditioned office environment with fluorescent lighting and moderate noise levels and occasionally work in outside atmospheric conditions for special programs and other library related events
  • Able to stay on task while professionally handling frequent interruptions from telephone calls and requests for assistance from customers or other staff
