Overview: Indian Trails Public Library District (ITPLD) has an exciting opportunity for a Youth Services Librarian to work in a dynamic and fun workplace creating engaging services for our middle school members. The main duties of the job include programming, school visits and collection development. This position also works closely with the High School Librarian to facilitate a smooth transition of middle school children from youth services to high school services. The ideal candidate will be creative, enthusiastic and tech-savvy as well as have the ability to establish relationships across the library and in the community. Additionally, this position involves working with a collaborative team, staffing the service desk to assist our members and serves as a person-in-charge (PIC) as required. The library also supports continued learning and professional growth. Hourly rate of $23.23 (annualized $45,294). Some of the job duties include: ● Staffs the Kids Desk by providing reference and readers advisory service and assisting individuals to find information and locate materials. ● Design and present high quality programs for children 6th through 8th grade both within the library and in local schools. ● Stay current with age appropriate literature; select, order, and weed as needed within budgetary guidelines. ● Contribute to a virtual presence for Youth Services through the website and a variety of communication methods. ● Work with other staff throughout the library in the design and implementation of reading programs and other projects. ● Actively promote the library, its materials, and services through programs, events, displays, newsletter and other channels. This Opportunity Requires: ● Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited university. ● Experience working with children birth through grade 8 with a focus on middle school. ● Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal in a calm, positive manner with patrons of all ages. ● Experience with providing library programs and services specializing in grades 6-8. ● Ability to stay organized and use time effectively with minimum supervision. ● Knowledge of relevant software and equipment. ● Ability to read computer screens; type accurately; communicate on the telephone, walkie talkie and other communication devices; safely lift and move materials of various shapes and sizes, up to 35 pounds. Able to push and pull carts and bins of various weights and sizes. Able to move about the library for long periods of time. ● Must have reliable transportation to the library facilities and other locations as needed and be able to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
