RAILS Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Training Grants

Purpose

RAILS recognizes the vital role libraries play in building a civil and engaged society by upholding core library values. Promoting and fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) is one of these core values, and RAILS is committed to supporting our member libraries in this area.  

To promote education and meaningful dialogue in the area of EDI, RAILS is pleased to offer training grants of up to $2,000 for libraries, networking groups, or library consortia.  These grants can assist in funding training events in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion for library staff and/or board members.  RAILS will prioritize geographic diversity and training for multiple library types in evaluation grant applications.  Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis. 

To qualify, CE events must be made available to other RAILS member libraries and be of interest to a wide range of library staff and/or board members.  Those interested in applying should review the conditions described below to ensure eligibility.

Funding

The maximum grant award is $2,000.  Partial funding of grant proposals may be considered.  Grants will be awarded and funds distributed approximately four to six weeks after the application deadline.

Application Deadline

The application period for 2021 EDI Training Grants is now CLOSED.  An announcement on future EDI training grants will be made in early 2022.

Eligible events include, but are not limited to, support for training that raises awareness and deepens understanding of the multiple dimensions of equity, diversity and inclusion.  Topics may include:

  • Implicit Bias
  • Integrating EDI into Strategic Planning
  • Conducting Diversity Audits
  • Assessing Programming for EDI
  • Social Justice Education
  • Understanding Microagressions
  • Recruiting for Diversity
  • Creating an Inclusive Hiring Process
