In addition to the schedule of events coming to Galena in January of 2019, Chicago poet Britteney Black Rose Kapri will perform poetry from her recent book,Black Queer Hoe and answer audience questions. This event will take place at Amelia's Under the Lamplight Dinner Theater on Wednesday, January 16 at 6 pm.
Black Queer Hoe is a refreshing, unapologetic look at the line between sexual freedom and sexual exploitation. Women's sexuality is often used as a weapon against them. In this powerful debut, Britteney Black Rose Kapri lends her unmistakable voice to fraught questions of identity, sexuality, reclamation, and power, in a world that refuses Black Queer women permission to define their own lives and boundaries. Reading will be followed by a question and answer session
Kapri is a Chicago teaching artist, writer, performance poet and playwright. She is a staff member for Black Nerd Problems, Young Chicago Authors, and Pink Door Women's Writing Retreat. She is a 2015 Rona Jaffe Writers Award Recipient. Her book "Black Queer Hoe" was released in the fall of 2018 by Haymarket Books.
Amelia's Under the Lamplight Dinner Theater is graciously providing hors d'eurves. There will be a cash bar available.
