Botanical Shakespeare lecture with author Gerit Quealy
Free lecture, Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 1pm, Linnaeus Room, Chicago Botanic Garden
Shakespearean scholar and author Gerit Quealy will discuss her newly published book Botanical Shakespeare: an Illustrated Compendium of All the Flowers, Fruits, Herbs, Trees, Seeds, and Grasses Cited by the World's Greatest Playwright.
Within this unique volume, Quealy includes a description and color botanical illustration by artist Sumié Hasegawa, for each of the 170 plant references found throughout the Bard's plays and poems. These along with a foreword by Helen Mirren, makes this an enchanting work.
Quealy is a noted American writer, editor, journalist, actor, and producer.
Lutenist, Christopher Morrongiello will perform during the program and he will be joined by a soprano singing two flower songs.
Following the lecture with Ms. Quealy, there will be a book signing in the Lenhardt Library and a viewing of associated volumes in the rare book room. Copies of Botanical Shakespeare are available for purchase in the Garden Shop.
