Literacy DuPage is a literacy volunteer organization which serves adult learners who need to develop their English communication skills. LDP works throughout DuPage County and peripheral portions of Kane and Will counties. Free tutoring services are provided by trained tutors to over 500 adult learners per year who have low English proficiency skills. This presentation will include information about the partnership Literacy DuPage supports and maintains with local libraries to provide tutoring and training space, how tutors and learners are matched in the LDP program, suggestions for tutoring materials to include in the library collections, how to market and establish vibrant ESL conversation groups.

Outcomes: Participants will increase their knowledge of 1) Literacy DuPage and its services and partnership with libraries; 2) how libraries are an integral part of supporting adult learners who are developing English language skills 3) must have tutor/learner friendly materials for a robust ESL and Adult Basic Education collection.

Audience: Library's contact person who oversees the adult literacy materials collection and/or adult learner outreach, as well as ESL conversation groups.

Presenter: Carol Garcia is the Program DIrector at Literacy DuPage She has been with LDP for 5+ years. Prior to this she worked at College of DuPage for 20 years as an adjunct ESL faculty member and program administrator. Carol holds a M. S. Ed. Adult and Higher Education from Northern Illinois University.
