Near West Youth Services Group (NWYS) - Libraries & Social Justice

Meeting
Monday, May 8, 2017 -
9:30am to 1:00pm
Where:
Hodgkins Public Library District

What is your library's role in promoting social justice? What can we do to support under-served communities? What is the librarian's place as an activist or advocate? What are the rewards, what are the risks and what do we do if we get push-back? We will be joined by Stephen Jackson, Community Resources Specialist, and Jose Cruz, Children's Services Librarian, both from Oak Park Public Library and Pilar Shaker, Director at Forest Park Public Library to hear all sides of the story, get some great ideas and get energized. Book Bytes is back! Bring a favorite "We Need Diverse Books" title to share during lunch. Event Coordinator: Regina Townsend Email: nwyslibrarians@gmail.com Phone: 708-689-6119
