Serving Patrons with Dementia

The Alzheimer's Association projects that by 2025, there will be an estimated 7.1 million people age 65 and older with Alzheimer's disease - a 40% increase from the 5.1 million age 65 and older affected in 2015.

Library staff need to ask themselves: 1) How does this increasing demographic affect our library and community? 2) How do we serve this growing population? Tina Williams, Outreach Services Manager, White Oak Library District and David Kelsey, Outreach Services Librarian, St. Charles Public Library, will share information from the Alzheimer's Association to give an overview of the impact of Alzheimer's and dementia related illnesses. Tina and David will discuss efforts to serve patrons with dementia in their communities. Learn about programming and collection development ideas, marketing tips, and ways to partner with community organizations. Visit their blog: https://librariansdementia.wordpress.com/. Presenters
