Library to Host Community Black Lives Matter Exhibit

(Orland Park) – Orland Park Public Library, 14921 S. Ravinia Ave., will host an exhibit by Orland Park residents to archive the Orland Park Black Lives Matter/ 8 Can't Wait protest that took place on June 12, 2020 in Orland Park. An opening reception will be held on Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. at the library.

The exhibit is a mix of photography, portraits, art, and digital narratives documenting the experiences of local residents and protestors participating in the Black Lives Matter movement.

Exhibit photography is by Naomi Hill. Portrait photography is by Peter Bosy. Paintings are by Ariane Radcliff, and narratives are by Aisha Scott. Light refreshments will be served at the opening reception.

"Now is the time we reimagine community," said Aisha Scott. "A place where we collectively care for ourselves, others and the entire world."

A panel discussion on the Orland Park Black Lives Matter: A Child's Vision exhibition on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. Natalie Moore of WBEZ will lead a panel discussion with some of the organizers, participants, and archivists of the Orland Park Black Lives Matter/ 8 Can't Wait protest. Panelists include: Nathan Epperson, the 9-year-old with the idea to protest peacefully; Geoff Epperson, co-organizer of the protest and Nathan's father; Tresha Miller, a protester; and Aisha Scott, co-organizer of the protest and creator of the exhibit.

"We are honored that Aisha and her partners chose their own local library for the inaugural exhibit of this collection," said Community Engagement Manager Sarah Kleiva.
