Free Rhythm and Music Workshop

Bradley Public Library is hosting a free workshop on August 25 from 10am-12pm for youth programmers and early childhood educators on integrating music into story times. This workshop is sponsored in part with a grant from the Community Foundation of Kankakee River Valley.

The workshop is led by Anne-Marie Akin from Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. The workshop will be divided into three sections. Part one will be an introduction to the basics of early childhood rhythm and movement. Part two will include specific instruction on how to use drums and other instruments. Part three will be creative and collaborative by building an engaging story time using a familiar text, and adding finger plays, movement extensions, or rhythm expansion. Bradley Public Library will provide a limited number of bongos and other percussion instruments for the workshop. Participants are free to bring their own percussion instruments.
