In Memoriam: Lynn O'Dell, Retired Director, Carol Stream Public Library

With deepest sadness, the Board and staff of the Carol Stream Public Library announce that Lynn O'Dell, retired Director of the Library, passed away this past week.

Lynn was the Director for 41 years (1964-2005). During her tenure, she moved the Library from a small house on Blackhawk Dr. to a brand new facility on Hiawatha Dr. She was an integral part of the founding of the former DuPage Library System and MAGIC Consortium, promoting inter-library cooperation, interlibrary loan and reciprocal borrowing. During her tenure she shepherded the Library through advancements in automation and technology with the advent of online public access catalogs, internet access for the public and information delivery through the World Wide Web and electronic databases. Lynn was known for her strong spirit of customer service and her dedication to the community of Carol Stream. Her legacy lives on.
