Chillicothe Public Library Receives Funding to Provide Digital Skills Training

Chillicothe, IL – Chillicothe Public Library has been selected to participate in Libraries Lead with Digital Skills, an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) and the Public Library Association (PLA), sponsored by Grow With Google, the tech company's economic opportunity initiative. Chillicothe Public Library will use the funding to empower small businesses through a series of weekly live virtual events designed to connect businesses with pro insights and online resources to bolster resilience and grow digital skills. The series kicked off at noon on Wednesday, July 22, and information on joining the webinars is available at and on the library's Facebook page.

The library partnered with the Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce to identify topics of interest, and each session features a regional expert on the topic, as well as a local business person who will share their experience. Plenty of time is allotted for Q & A and discussion. The library has also curated a list of links on their website to free resources and mini-courses through Grow with Google, which participants can use to explore these topics further.

The series includes six sessions: "Moving Your Business Online" with Ross Miller of Sherpa Enterprises, LLC, on July 22; "Social Media," with Marci Goodwin of Leverage Social, on July 29; "Marketing," with Francie Hinrichsen of Simply Integrated, LLC, on August 5; "Networking," with Rebecca Bledsoe of Dale Carnegie Training of Greater Illinois on August 12; "Managing Turnover: Retaining the Right Employees," with Raylana Anderson of Anderson Consulting, on August 19; and "Accounting," with William Sharpe of Total Income Tax, on August 26. As a bonus, the library will be giving away a Chamber of Commerce membership and other great prizes at the end of the series. Individuals may enter the drawing once for every session they attend.

"Libraries have long been America's gathering place for learning. From learning new digital skills for the workplace, to creating a résumé or growing your business online, people are going to libraries as resources for professional growth now more than ever," said Nicky Rigg, program manager for Digital Skills outreach at Google.

This program is funded by Libraries Lead with Digital Skills, which was created so that local libraries can combine their own program offerings with Grow with Google training materials to offer activities aimed at empowering small businesses to grow online or assisting job seekers to prepare for and find work.

The Grow with Google initiative draws on Google's 20-year history of building products, platforms, and services that help people and businesses grow their skills, careers, and businesses.

The "Empowering Small Businesses" virtual program series will take place weekly on Wednesdays at 12:00 noon through August 26. For more information on these live virtual sessions and how to join in, visit, call 309-274-2719, or find Chillicothe Public Library on Facebook.
