The Galesburg Public Library Board of Trustees has unanimously approved the appointment of Ms. Noelle Thompson to be the library's director effective August 5, 2019. Ms. Thompson replaces Mr. Zachary Holt, who resigned in March 2019.
Ms. Thompson began her library career at the Leid Scottsbluff Public Library in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where she has been director since 2016. A Galesburg native, she was active growing up in both the Performing Arts Academy and Prairie Players. After graduating from Galesburg High School, she took a gap year with Americorps NCCC before continuing her education at Carl Sandburg College and at Monmouth College, from which she received her Bachelor of Arts in English before earning her Masters in Information from Rutgers University. She taught English as a Second Language in Korea for a year before doing the same at Carl Sandburg College for two years. She also brings non-profit and customer service experience to the Galesburg Public Library. Ms. Thompson said "I am proud of my hometown and believe in the impact the library has on establishing and reinforcing the values that keep Galesburg strong and vibrant".
Board President Laurie Mueller said "We are delighted that Noelle Thompson is returning to Galesburg to become our new library director and have every expectation that she will be a welcome addition, not only to the library staff and patrons, but to the larger community of Galesburg itself."
Members of the community are invited to meet Ms. Thompson in the library lobby on Thursday, August 8, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
