New Lenox Library patrons swap yarns — literally

Crafty residents of the New Lenox area have a new place to pick up yarn: the New Lenox Library!

We've set up a permanent yarn swap station by our Digital Media Lab. This yarn has been donated. Patrons can take what they need for projects, and donate the yarn they don't want. Donated yarn is given to staff first, so we can check for allergens like pet fur. Yarn with pet fur may be made into mats and toys for pets or shelter animals, but we keep it separated from the rest of the yarn in a closed container.

We also have crochet hooks and knitting needles (straight, double, and circular) for checkout thanks to our awesome Friends of the Library group. Our Digital Media Lab staff teach how to use them, and they compliment our Fiber Arts Club and Craft Swap programming nicely.

With over 60 likes and loves on Facebook turning into almost daily use, this was a passive programming success.
