Carnegie Library on Historic Registry Gets a Makeover.
Andrew Carnegie's philanthropic legacy lives on in Oregon, IL and the current Library Director, Andy Dettman, is excited to show off the newly remodeled digs. After two failed referendums for a new library, Library Trustees and the new Director took a different course: remodeling. Being on the historic registry meant treading carefully but with the help of Rockford architect Gary Anderson, the library maintained its historic integrity and made the whole library handicap accessible including its unique art collection with works from well-known sculptor and founder of the Eagle's Nest Art Colony, Lorado Taft.
Dettman hopes the community will come out and see the new improvements at its grand re-opening March 17 from 5:30-7:00pm.
