RAILS serves more than 1,300 public, academic, special, and school library members, representing more than 3500 library facilities in a 27,000 square mile area.
All full-member RAILS libraries participate in resource sharing and must comply with the ILLINET Interlibrary Loan Code and RAILS Resource Sharing Policy. Public libraries also need to provide reciprocal borrowing to patrons of other member public libraries, and to report whether nonresident cards are offered.
Vendors may offer discounts on products an services to the catalog consortia that RAILS supports, and some offers are also extended to all of our member libraries.
RAILS provides interlibrary delivery of library materials for all member libraries.
Funding for all Illinois Library Systems is provided through the Illinois State Library and the Secretary of State from revenue appropriated by the Illinois General Assembly or granted under the federal Library Services and Technology Act.
