This position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

General Summary

Reporting to the Head of Regenstein Circulation and Building Resources, the Regenstein Library Entrance/Exit control attendant performs clerical duties and is responsible for welcoming patrons and visitors, assisting with access, answering inquiries, and directing to other library departments or staff as necessary, explaining Library policy to patrons, and building security. The Entrance/Exit control attendant must be able to handle high and low levels of activity while providing exceptional customer service to all Library visitors.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities:

  • Visually check identification for valid entrance of all patrons and visitors, work with ID & Privileges and Circulation departments to establish access for non-affiliated visitors, and issue visitor passes.
  • Troubleshoot entry control system and report issues with database and entry gates to ID & Privileges office and Circulation supervisors.
  • Answer phone inquiries, monitor email and visitor calendar, remain knowledgeable and informed about Library events, and communicate information between shifts to colleagues and supervisors.
  • Assist and/or direct patrons to Circulation if the exit alarm sounds to ensure library materials are checked out.
  • Welcome and assist patrons and visitors to the Library through the consistent and equitable application of Library policies to ensure excellent customer service to all, using the University and Library websites to provide campus and Library resources to patrons seeking information and directions.
  • Remain aware of emergency protocols and evacuation systems, report emergency situations to UCPD and supervisors; in the absence of other staff act as primary contact with UCPD and fire department.
  • Promptly report building issues to Library and University Facilities Services via phone and email as needed.
  • At opening, ensure the building is unlocked on time. At closing, lock library entrances and work with Allied security staff and UCPD to secure the building. Ensures all doors are secured after hours.
  • Monitor South entrance of the library when building is closed, responding to the doorbell and allowing access to authorized after-hours users.

Additional Requirements

Education, Experience, or Certifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Experience:

  • Previous customer service experience required.
  • One year of general office or clerical experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in a college or university preferred.

Technical Knowledge or Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Navigate web-based systems.
  • Learn a range of position-related software applications.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Bend, crouch, or stoop.
  • Sit for 4 hours or more.
  • Use computers extensively for 4 hours or more.
  • The hours for this position are Tuesday – Saturday 2pm -10pm.

Pay Range:

  • $15.53 - $16.00 per hour.
