Position Details
Concordia University Chicago invites applications for the full-time, exempt position of Technical Services Librarian to provide support to the office of Library. This position is located in River Forest, IL and reports to the Director of Library Services.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Oversee ordering electronic and physical books, including acquisitions requests from faculty
- Collaborate with the Director of Library Services to monitor ordering, receiving, processing, and payment of all collection materials
- Responsible for original and copy cataloging
- Maintain thorough knowledge of Ex-Libris Alma library software system (ILS) and WorldCat Discovery
- Serve as the liaison with Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries of Illinois (CARLI) and OCLC
- Maintain and distribute to library staff: acquisitions, cataloging policies, and procedures
- Supervise binding and preservation
- Train and supervise Federal Student Workers regarding technical services projects
- Collaborate with the library team on collection development
- Pull and prepare usage statistics for upcoming renewals and tracking subscription renewal notice deadlines
- Participate in the reference desk coverage on occasion
- Works on Saturday every one-two month/s is required
- Other duties as assigned
Skill Sets:
- Knowledge of acquisitions and cataloging practices in an automated environment; preferably of Ex-Libris Alma library software system (ILS)
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work both independently and in cooperation with others
Minimum Experience Required:
A minimum of one year cataloging experience in an academic library; one year library acquisitions experience
Education Requirements:
MLS degree from ALA-accredited institution
