Library Director Job Posting
Northern Michigan Library Director Opportunity
We're drawn to a library like we're drawn to the edge of a body of water, because both allow us space for dreaming, contemplation, entertainment, and growth. How special would it be to work in a space that provides both? The Elk Rapids District Library Board of Trustees proudly announces the search for their next Library Director.
The current Library building is quaint with a collection of 20,000 items and digital resources including MEL and Overdrive. The Elk Rapids Library is staffed with nine dedicated team members. Housed in the former residence of one of the town's founding families, the Elk Rapids District Library is located adjacent to Grand Traverse Bay with views of the harbor and a fresh new look with each change of the seasons in this Northern Michigan town.
The library services an area of 6,000 people year-round, growing to three times that amount in the tourist season. The community represents a concentrated offering of specialty shops, merchants, and restaurants, while continuously nodding to its limitless outdoor recreational opportunities, all of which are highlighted in the video at the following link.
Who do we seek?
Driven to inspire the library and its staff to be at their collective best for the community.
Ability to navigate challenges while communicating positively, transparently, and collaboratively with stakeholders.
Knowledgeable of all facets of library management.
Able to curate the collection, strategically support programming efforts, and plan for the space needs of the community with the current building and future space.
Experienced in strategic planning, managing building projects with contractors, and with budget management experience that supports both.
Remains current with professional contacts at the state and national level with an eye towards the future, monitoring for trends to bring the latest in offerings (be they programming, content, or technology) for the benefit of the library.
Qualifications & Compensation:
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree and a Level-3 certificate from the Library of Michigan (or be able to obtain Level-3 certification), and a demonstrated history of progressive responsibility managing a library or department within a library. Elk Rapids offers a starting salary of $80,000 with the ability to grow, along with competitive benefits which include a signing bonus/moving allowance of $5,000. As there is a millage in perpetuity, the library is well funded.
