Midlothian Public Library, located in a southwestern suburb of Chicago of just under 15,000 residents, is seeking a Public Services Assistant with an emphasis in Teen Services. The Public Services Assistant will assist the Teen Services Librarian in the planning, implementation, and supervision of events for teens; facilitation of other teen club meetings; technology help, reference, and reader's advisory service to patrons of all ages; assistance with outreach to schools and other community organizations; and recommendation of teen books, graphic novels/manga, and other media for purchase by the library. The Public Services Assistant will work 15-17 hours per week; hours will be divided between days, evenings, and Saturdays.
Requirements: Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 1 year experience working with teenagers. Bilingual a plus!
Working conditions: Ability to lift 25 pounds, to push a cart loaded with library materials, to reach and bend to retrieve materials, and to stand at service desk for long periods.
Qualifications: Ability to relate well to patrons and staff of all ages; strong oral and written language skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and highly developed Internet search skills; working knowledge of or ability to learn computerized library systems; good planning and organizational skills; initiative, creativity, flexibility, resourcefulness, and good judgment.
