REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to Assistant Library Director

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Enters data into the "VisionCite" citation database for indexing purposes
  • Performs basic circulation desk functions: check out; check in, hold notices, overdue equipment reports, etc.
  • Resolves problems with circulation records, fines and library users using the ILS Circulation module in conjunction with the Electronic Resources Librarian
  • Places material into or removes material from the ILS library software module
  • Teaches student workers the circulation desk functions, shelving, photocopying, checkout, etc.
  • Answers simple reference requests, referring more complicated assistance to the ICO librarians
  • Performs data entry and data maintenance as required
  • Processes received library materials with barcodes, labels and tags, etc.
  • Maintains and updates bulletin boards and display boards

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains the library study rooms and orders necessary supplies
  • Resolves patrons' problems with hardware, software, scanning, printing and/or equipment use (including microfilm)
  • Checks in periodical issues and newspapers daily using the ILS Serials module
  • Picks up the newspapers and mail on a daily basis
  • Coordinates with Facilities on non-critical activities related to the library
  • Coordinates with the Senior Director on library low supplies
  • Answers phone and provides service as requested
  • Assists library users locate library materials
  • Assists with the bindery and annual inventory
  • Schedules library student worker shelf reading activities each quarter
  • Opens/closes library; turns on/off lights; locks/unlocks doors; logs onto the computers as required
  • Other job-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor, the Assistant Library Director or the Senior Director
  • Basic copy cataloging functions
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • High school diploma, bachelor's degree preferred
  • Knowledge and operation of computers, software, equipment and library software
  • Ability to learn new software applications
  • Ability to handle a wide variety of non-sequential jobs without confusion
  • Ability to follow through on verbal or written instructions
  • Demonstrated experience in typing, filing, and data entry in computers
  • Demonstrated experience in record keeping
  • Ability to verify data on ID cards and the library material with the information in the Ex Libris circulation module
  • Ability to shelve and retrieve library materials from the stacks
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; team player
  • Ability to meet deadlines regardless of circumstances or pressures
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Previous library experience
  • ExLibris ILS experience
  • English and Spanish speaking
