The Library Assistant II will assist library staff with day-to-day library activities, including interlibrary loan services, circulation services, maintenance of library environment, creation of basic patron and item records, and basic reference services and information literacy instruction. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
•Assist in the processing and tracking of interlibrary loan and print-scanning requests
•Assist with circulation services
•Assist with general maintenance of library environment (clean dry-erase boards, return tables/chairs to original locations, periodically reboot computers, etc.)
•Provide basic reference services, escalating questions to librarians when necessary
•Create and maintain basic cataloging records for patrons/items and assist in processing items for inclusion in the collection
•Troubleshoot problems with computers, copiers, and printers, escalating issues to Information Technology Services when needed
•Assist with collection weeding, shifting, and space planning activities
•Assist with collection development, including working with the circulating and reserve collections to insure that adequate copies of the most current edition of needed resources are available in the most appropriate formats
•Provide tours of the library and descriptions of services as needed
•Attend weekly meeting with direct supervisor and provide input regarding projects and changes to service
•Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor(s) and library staff, as needed.
Required Education & Experience
•High School Diploma or GED equivalent
•2 years of relevant library experience, preferably in a higher education setting
•Familiarity with library environment, including electronic resources, reference, and circulation services.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
•Excellent organization and communication skills
•Self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment
•Strong attention to detail
•The ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, and students
•Demonstrate computer proficiency, especially in Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel
•Flexibility to deal with multiple or unexpected tasks and patrons simultaneously
•Experience working in a library environment, including familiarity with interlibrary loan services, circulation, reference, and electronic resources
•Library technical assistant (LTA) degree
•Current enrollment in a graduate-level library science program
