The Algonquin Area Public Library seeks a creative, energetic, and positive person to work with the Youth Services team and Eastgate Branch staff to create and coordinate early literacy initiatives, programming and promotions at both library locations. This position requires the ability to utilize and teach early literacy skills within the Library and the community. This person will work as a liaison creating a relationship with and providing resources for local preschools and schools. An enthusiastic, well-spoken individual is needed, who can help foster pre-reading skills in our youngest patrons and can help educate and support parents and caregivers.
Knowledge of current research on early literacy and development of literacy programs for children. Knowledge of PLA's ECRR skills and ECRR2 skills and associated programming. Knowledge of the Common Core Standards. The ability to teach, demonstrate and share these skills with the staff and the public. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience teaching and training children and adults.
