General Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Access Services Coordinator, the Circulation Desk Supervisor is responsible for providing access services to Lincoln Park Campus library users by the efficient circulation of library materials. Perform remote charging and related duties for I-Share resource sharing.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Ensure that all library materials are correctly charged and discharged.

  • Routinely investigate problems with item records and update records for accuracy.

  • Perform regular circulation tasks, including trouble shooting circulation workflows, routing materials; item record updating and patron record updating.

  • Perform resource-sharing tasks related to consortial borrowing and lending including remote charging and related duties.

  • Assist patrons in use of the library and the services provided by Access Services including using the online catalog and locating specific library materials.

  • Maintain the smooth operation of microcomputer-based tasks in the department for efficient, accurate circulation records.

  • Compile and keep essential records and statistics for the department.

  • Make recommendations to Access Services Coordinator in matters of circulation policy and maintain a manual of procedures.

  • Train student assistants to work at the LPC Access Services Desk.

  • Maintain and records departmental statistics.

  • Maintain regular schedule of hours working at the LPC Access Services Desk; participate in weekend/evening desk supervision schedule as assigned.

  • Participate in the overall team effort and quality of service towards the efficient operation of the department and university.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum: Associate's degree.

Preferred Requirements

  • Previous library experience.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Automated library system experience.

  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Shares responsibility with all non-student staff members assigned to serve at the desk for supervising student assistants, as assigned.

  • The incumbent directly supervises the student assistants while she or he is scheduled to work at the desk.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to spend extended periods standing.

  • Sitting, kneeling, crouching, bending, and routinely lifting up to 25 pounds may also be required.

  • Visual acuity, hand-eye coordination and motor skills sufficient to use a computer, copy machine and other office equipment are required.

Additional Information

  • Evening and weekend hours and travel among DePaul campuses may be required.
