Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: 5pm - 9pm
Saturday: 9am - 5pm (twice per month)
Sunday: 12pm - 5pm (twice per month)
Under the supervision of the Circulation Supervisor, this employee is responsible for assisting the public with the circulation and borrowing process, location of Library materials, and other patron-related matters. This position is differentiated from the Library Associate I position by the complexity and amount of work assigned.
Provides directional assistance to patrons who visit or call the Library. Registers patrons for Library cards. Checks in and out, and places reserves on Library items. Checks Library shelves to locate items and update item statuses accordingly. Operates the cash register and credit card machine. Assists with self-checkouts. Sorts and shelves Library materials. Shelf reads. Processes circulation problems, damaged items, interlibrary loans, reserved materials, overdue notices, and department reports as requested. Communicates on the telephone to handle patron inquiries, relay information, and respond to general questions from staff and the public.
Required Experience & Training
High school education or equivalent. One year of customer service experience and one year of library experience is required. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google applications, and the internet. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Service-oriented with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff and the public.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, stretching, stooping, and kneeling. Ability to reach shelves of various heights and push heavy carts throughout work shift. Frequent reading of 8-point font. Occasional lifting and moving items up to 50 pounds, and sitting at and using a computer terminal. Moving wheeled carts of up to 100 pounds within or between buildings in all weather conditions.
