The Flossmoor Public Library is seeking a new library director to oversee all operations of a busy library. Candidate must be proactive, customer service oriented, employee-centric, be willing to take risks and to try different methods of bringing traditional and innovative library programs and services to the community of Flossmoor, IL.
The Flossmoor Public Library is in the south suburbs of Chicago, and serves a diverse community of approximately 9,400 residents, with an active youth population. The library facility is 14 years old and is situated in the heart of downtown Flossmoor.
The Library is a village library with an annual budget of $1.35 million and an annual circulation of 165,000. There are 32 staff members (8 full time, 24 part time) who work well as a team. The board consists of 7 elected community members who are very supportive of the library director and staff in providing services to the communities.
The successful candidate will possess strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to relate well to the public and library staff, has good organizational skills and be progressive. The director will be required to promote public relations and community outreach while establishing the library as a valued community institution. The candidate must have a master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited program with previous public library director experience or has served as a supervisor for a minimum of 3 years. In addition to other duties, the candidate will also be responsible for the preparation of all legal and financial documents, including the budget and levy. Candidate should also be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other computer applications.
