The Zion-Benton Public Library has an exciting opportunity open. We're member of the Cooperative Computer Services consortia, moving to Innovative Interface's Polaris platform this year. Our new Technical Services Supervisor will have the opportunity to redesign workflows and remodel the Technical Services department to go with our new ILS.
Duties and Responsibilities: • Catalogs and classifies all resources for input into the Cooperative Computer Services (CCS) online database, including searching OCLC (Smartport and Connexion Browser), editing bibliographic records, performing copy cataloging, some original cataloging, updating item and title records using CCS rules including adding new local item records to existing bibliographic records, and deleting item records for missing items, creating and maintaining serial records, assigning call numbers, and printing spine labels. • Library liaison with CCS including responding to clean-up requests and requesting policy changes • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in library technical services, • Supervises library acquisitions including creating and transmitting orders in online systems as directed by selectors and tracking orders, tracking materials budgets providing reports to material selectors, reconciling shipments, packing slips, and invoices, receiving materials bills and reconciling shipments, coding invoices for payment • Collect accurate and up-to-date statistics about the use of the collection and library services, including generating statistical reports from CCS database, retrieving and sending weekly and monthly statistical reports to staff members, compiling statistics for eResources, tech services and circulation materials for monthly board report • Supervises work duties of Technical Services Assistant I • Assume full responsibility for the operation and security of the library as needed (Person in Charge). • Participates in professional development and continuing education, as appropriate. • Supervises and evaluates staff; identifies training needs, recommends, and/or provides staff training to meet identified needs and improve performance. • Repairs books as needed • Maintains department supplies • Performs other duties as assigned Working Conditions: Normal office conditions Physical Demands: • Requires full range of motion, including standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods • Requires bending, stooping, and reaching to retrieve library materials • Must be able to move a two-sided book cart loaded with books and other library materials • Must have dexterity and eye-hand coordination to move materials or operate automated equipment • Must be able to lift boxes of books, paper, or other items weighing up to 40 lbs Education, Experience, and Skills Required: • Two (2) years of college education and/or LTA Certification • Two years of library experience. • Minimum of one (1) year of successful library experience as a cataloger • Working knowledge of AARC2 and RDA cataloging rules, MARC formats, Dewey, and cataloging techniques and procedures • Demonstrated skill in using a computer to enter and retrieve data, typing, filing, and organization including using Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Excel, Word) • Familiarity with online automation systems and vendor online ordering systems. • Ability to complete detailed work accurately, efficiently, and on time, with minimal supervision and/or frequent interruptions • Ability to adapt to evolving technology
