We are looking for a passionate librarian who enjoys approaching customers of all ages and cultures, to connect them with their favorite interests and information needs. This position involves extensive interaction with the public, answering questions and guiding research in person, in our call center, and out in the community.
Our librarians support a culture of learning and work together to make the library a great place to be and work. You'll be called on to share your expertise with your non-degreed colleagues, and act as a mentor and leader when supervisors aren't present. Our community is diverse and your coworkers are, too, so being comfortable engaging with a wide variety of ages, cultures, and abilities is important.
This position requires the ability to communicate with customers and colleagues throughout the library in an effective, enthusiastic and respectful manner; excellent research skills, with experience using a variety of databases; and strong customer service skills. Preferred candidates will have training and instruction experience and a passion for developing programs and learning activities.
Our Service Model:
We are an active, service-oriented public library. Will staff our Info Desk and Call Center, responding to an array of challenging and detailed research questions helping our customers navigate today's information world. Off-desk time is spent in a shared office environment, contributing to library-wide initiatives and coordinating programs and classes.
Requirements & Skills:
Two or more years reference experience in a public library or similar setting. A good working knowledge of books, music, movies and popular culture is required to make recommendations for appropriate reading, listening and viewing materials.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and excel in Our Culture.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong customer service skills.
Bilingual candidates or those with experience serving multicultural audiences are encouraged to apply.
MLS from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent work experience required.
