We seek an enthusiastic leader to serve as Library Director. The Library District is located east of the Illinois River, across from Peoria. The 256 square mile district includes a riverfront community, expanding housing developments, and rich farmland. The 21,644 population includes farmers, commuters, and small businessmen. The Library District just completed a new branch library of 7,000 square feet, one of six buildings to serve its patrons. The Library District has three full-time and sixteen part-time staff. The District is a member of RAILS, Resource Sharing Alliance and Online Computer Library Center.
Requirements include: Masters degree in library science from an ALA accredited program and 3-5 years of library experience. Preferred skills are: ability to relate effectively to patrons, staff, local government leaders and community groups; experience with budgeting; ability to write grants; knowledge of common computer programs and a working knowledge of library specific software.
Duties include: supervise and evaluate staff at all six facilities; supervise and participate in acqusitions; supervise cataloging and technical services; advise and implement library policies and procedures; supervise interlibrary loan and relations with other libraries; supervise operations at all facilities; promote the library in as many venues as possible; encourage staff to develop ideas, programs and promotions for the library; work with local leaders to promote library services; prepare all required annual reports to the State Library; participate in the annual auditing process; serve on local, regional and state library committees; supervise and maintain the library presence on electronic media; supervise maintenance of the library's hardware and software; manage all library owned facilities.
