In this discussion and activity-based workshop, we will use Linking for Learning, 4th edition to consider practical strategies for communicating the value of school libraries to decision-makers and stake-holders. No matter your role in your school or district you have impact on your students' learning. Is your library a "best-kept secret?"

Topics:
-How can we use research to communicate the benefits of a school library/librarian?
-What is the collaborative role of school librarians and administrators in creating a culture of learning?
-What is an effective school library? How do I communicate value to stake-holders?
-How can I use Linking For Learning, 4th edition, to positively impact my school library and make a growth plan that I can share with stakeholders?

Goals
1. Examine your current and potential role in the school's culture of learning
2. Learn strategies for communicating the value of libraries and librarians to stakeholders
3. Identify the needs of your school library and develop a process for addressing the needs

Agenda

9:30 - 9:45 a.m. Introduction

9:45 - 10: 15 a.m. How can we use research to communicate the benefits of a school library/librarian?

10:15 - 11:15 a.m. What is the collaborative role of school librarians and administrators in creating a culture of learning? What is an effective school library? How do I communicate value to stake-holders?

11:15 - 11:30 a.m. Break

11:30 a.m. - 12:40 p.m. How can I use Linking For Learning, 4th edition, to positively impact my school library? How can I use the standards to make a growth plan that I can share with stakeholders?

12:40 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Resources and feedback

Each participant will need a copy of Linking For Learning, 4th edition. If you do not have a copy of Linking For Learning you can purchase one from AISLE or a small quantity will be available for purchase the day of the workshop for $30. Only credit card payments will be accepted.

RAILS is partnering with the Illinois State Library, an ISBE approved provider, to provide PDH credit to those maintaining an Illinois teaching certification. Three and a half (3.5) professional development hours (PDHs) will be available for attending this workshop. An evaluation form must be submitted prior to receiving credit hours.
