Niles Public Library Summer Reading Kick-Off Festival
Submitted by Sasha Vasilic on Thu, 06/06/2013 - 9:08amThe Niles Public Library kicks off their 2013 “READ: Build Your Future” Summer Reading Club with a weekend festival for the whole family.
Friday, June 7: From 4:30-6:30pm, kids and families are welcome to kick-off our Summer Reading Club by checking out the award-winning Niles Teen Center in the Golf Mill Shopping Center. Sign up for the Niles Library Summer Reading Club and receive free tickets to Brookfield Zoo and Dinosaurs Alive (while supplies last). Attendees will enjoy snacks provided by GFS Marketplace.
Saturday, June 8: Join us at the Niles Library for a light community breakfast (9:30-10:30am) and stay for Family Lego Build (11am-12pm) or Build A 3-D Puzzle (12-4pm). Everyone who helps build a 3-D Puzzle will be entered to win one of the puzzles.
Sun., June 9: From 1-3:30pm, Barry North will entertain patrons throughout the Library with a plethora of yo-yo tricks. At 2pm or 3:30pm (two showtimes), audience members will be spellbound by the talented illusionist, John Measner. He brings years of experience and a few live animals to the show. Pick up free tickets at the Youth Services desk 30 minutes ahead of time; space is limited.
Everyone who signs up for the Summer Reading Club from June 7-9 receives a gift and a ticket for a free hot dog meal redeemable at the Niles Library on Sun., June 9. For more info on how your whole family can participate in the Summer Reading Club, go to www.nileslibrary.org. Grand Prize for adults and teens is an iPad Mini. Kids can read and play our popular Summer Reading game featuring Glummy and his friends.
The Niles Public Library District is located at 6960 W. Oakton St, the northeast corner of the Oakton and Waukegan intersection. Library hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.

Wilmette Public Library Awarded "Let's Talk About It : Muslim Journeys" Grant
Submitted by Nancy Wagner on Tue, 06/04/2013 - 5:08pmThe Wilmette Public Library received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association (ALA) to host this five-part reading and discussion series. The Library is one of 125 libraries and state humanities councils across the country selected to participate in the project, which seeks to familiarize public audiences in the United States with the people, places, history, faith and cultures of Muslims in the United States and around the world. Norma Claire Moruzzi, Associate Professor and Director of the International Studies Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago will facilitate the discussion series, beginning in Fall, 2013.
