Position Description: 

Due to retirement, the Lisle Library District is seeking a gracious and friendly Circulation Department Director responsible for the leadership of a Department of 5 full time and 17 part time staff members. (12.24 FTE)    This position must be able to navigate a Circulation Department with a smile, coordinate the highly technical world of an ILS and apply their analytical and leadership skills for the benefit of the Library.  

This position serves with the Leadership Team and reports directly to the Library Director.    We desire a good working body of knowledge about public library service, policy and procedure, and excellent supervisory skills in a Library atmosphere.    Six years of recent Library Circulation experience (public preferred) with a minimum of three years of supervisory experience in a Library.    This position must be able to serve as a designated Person-In-Charge.

Good collaboration skills are a must, and only the teamcentric should apply.   This position must be able to provide uniformly gracious service to a lovely community that expects and receives a high level of patron service.    Technology savvy, fluency in social networking desired.   Must be able to readily adapt and appreciate technology in a Library environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 An MLS or graduate degree in fields related to Library and Information Science.  Six years of recent library Circulation experience (public preferred) including a minimum of three years of supervisory experience in a Library.

High degree of technical knowledge of Library ILS, Polaris experience preferred.  Must have in-depth technical and functional expertise of the ILS, ability to compile and analyze statistical reports for management systems.  

 High level of analytical, technical, organizational and leadership skills.   Must be able to serve as a Person-In-Charge on a regular basis.

 Ability to participate in and foster a teamcentric environment with staff members and other Department Heads.   

 Must be able to provide uniformly friendly and gracious service while mentoring and motivating staff to do the same.   

Ability to navigate difficult Circulation situations with a calm attitude.  

Technology savvy, fluency in social networking desired.   Must be able to readily adapt and appreciate technology in a Library environment.

DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

Coordinating with Library network staff for implementation of third party products or ILS upgrades.  

Effectively oversee patron registration, material circulation, material recovery, hold requests and    Inter Library Loan Management.

Represent the Library at ILS user groups, forums and other communication opportunities. Serve as the system administrator for the Library ILS system.

Must be familiar with all Library policies and procedures, and make decisions in accordance with them.   Resolve patron concerns.

Responsible for hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating the Circulation Services staff.   Plan, organize, and delegate work to effect a smooth operation.

Use reporting software to design, and generate reports from the Library ILS database for management decision making.

Develop and coordinate outreach patron registration activities.

Preparing an annual department budget.  Monitor, and approve all departmental expenditures.

Deal with departmental personnel problems in accordance with Library policies and employee guidelines, and report all problems to Library Director.

Maintain professional skills, and keep up with professional literature and developments in the field.

Oversee the physical appearance of department.

Encourage staff attendance at relevant meetings and workshops.

 Attend Department Director, staff meetings and other relevant meetings and workshops.

 Prepare necessary reports and presentations for Library Director and Board.

 Convey patrons’ requests to Library Director.

 Keep pertinent statistics and records.

 Other duties as assigned.
