Visiting Regional Assistant Librarian & Assistant Professor

The University of Illinois at Chicago Library seeks an innovative and service oriented Visiting Regional Assistant Librarian for the Library of the Health Sciences in Rockford, one of three regional sites of the Library of the Health Sciences in Chicago. The Library provides research and information services for the Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing, the School of Public Health, and community health professionals and consumers in Northern Illinois. The Visiting Regional Assistant Librarian is primarily responsible for information and educational services and assists the Regional Head Librarian in the operation and management of the library.
Responsibilities: The Visiting Regional Assistant Librarian is responsible for all aspects of information services, online searching, reference consultation (including chat and e-mail), and marketing of resources; coordinates curriculum-integrated instruction and other educational activities; serves as liaison to various professional colleges; contributes to evidence-based medicine initiatives; participates in outreach to offsite faculty, and community health professionals and consumers; contributes to content for the Library’s Web site. The incumbent also leads local staff development activities, participates in library-wide task forces/committees, and administers the Library in the absence of the Regional Head Librarian. The position reports to the Regional Head Librarian (Rockford).
Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program; proficiency with PubMed and other electronic health information resources; reference service and instructional experience; strong user-focused public services orientation; excellent written communication and interpersonal skills; familiarity with basic computer applications and bibliographic management software; flexibility to work collaboratively in a team environment; evidence of good judgment and organizational skills; and ability to travel.
SALARY/RANK/CONTRACT: Salaries are competitive and based on education and experience; visiting faculty appointments in the UIC Library begin at $42,000; twelve month appointment; 24 days vacation; two weeks annual sick leave with additional disability benefits; 11 paid holidays; medical insurance (contribution based on annual salary; coverage for dependents may be purchased); a dental plan is available; life insurance paid for by the State; participation in one of the retirement options of the Illinois State Universities Retirement System compulsory (8% of salary is withheld and is tax exempt until withdrawal); no Social Security coverage but Medicare payment required.
