POSITION SUMMARY
Provide assistance in Public Services area; provide comprehensive assistance and instruction to patrons regarding the use of the library’s print and electronic resources; act as a liaison for the university and the library with local and distance students and staff, as well as community patrons; assist in maintaining the functioning of the library through a variety of tasks such as: development of materials to assist with organization and dissemination of information, and displays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist students, faculty, and staff with their informational and research needs, particularly in regard to the formulation of search strategies
- Assist patrons and visitors with directional information about the library
- Greet and assist members of the public using the USF library
- Answer and direct phone calls that come to the library’s reference desk
- Respond to email/chat reference questions
- Assist patrons with the acquisition of necessary informational material
- Provide individualized guidance and instruction on the use of library resources
- Assist patrons with computer usage
- Continuously update knowledge of, and competence in, common Technical Services and Public Services practices
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- MLS from an ALA accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong public service ethic
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to be productive working independently and be a self-starter
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position
- Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of the university
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Endeavor Information Systems Voyager ILS
- Recent experience providing library services in an academic library setting
- Recent experience providing reference services in an academic library setting
