Position Description: 

Summary:
Provide assistance and instruction to patrons regarding the use of the library’s print and electronic resources. Act as an entry-level liaison for the university and the library with local and distance students and staff, as well as community patrons. Take a lead role, under the supervision of the Head of Public Services, providing bibliographic instruction (in a variety of formats) and developing, organizing and disseminating materials to assist distance students and faculty with their research needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
*Develop and deliver instruction in multiple formats (in person, online, etc) to various groups on and off campus (with assistance from reference librarians).
*Provide leadership in addressing information literacy both at the library instruction level and across the campus.

*Handle all administrative details of the delivery of instructional services (including scheduling, statistics, and evaluation).
*Provide individualized guidance and instruction on the use of library resources.
*Provide general reference services in person, by telephone and via email (possibly virtually) at scheduled times.
*Possess and maintain skills in web-editing, publishing and other technology tools related to comprehensive library user services.
*Assume lead responsibility for the content and assembly of library display cases.
*Assist students, faculty, and staff with their library informational and research needs, particularly in regard to the formulation of search strategies.
*Answer and direct phone calls that come to the library's reference desk.
*Respond to email reference questions and / or virtual reference questions.
*Greet and assist members of the public using the USF library for research purposes.
*Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Work is performed in an office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This is sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum:

*MLS from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent experience.
*Knowledge of and experience with HTML, general systems design, social media and other emerging trends in the delivery of library information and services to local and distance patrons.
*Strong public service ethic and ability to manage heavy faculty demand for service.
*Recent experience with a variety of print and online reference tools.
*Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
*Must be a self-starter with the ability to be productive working both independently and collaboratively.
*Commitment to professional development, and participation in select university committees.
*Coursework and/or experience in reference and instruction.
*Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.
*Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of the university

Preferred:

*2 years reference and/or instruction experience in an academic library.
*Recent experience in providing in-person and remote library instruction in an academic library setting.
*Experience with collection development.
